Our Top 5 Coastal Walks from Newgale, Pembrokeshire

Comments Off on Our Top 5 Coastal Walks from Newgale, Pembrokeshire

One of the questions we’re asked most often by guests staying at Southwood Cottage and Ocean View Studio is, “Which coastal walk should we do first?”

The honest answer is that you can’t really go wrong. We’re incredibly lucky here in Newgale to sit right on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Whether you’re looking for a gentle stroll or a more challenging day on the cliffs, there are walks to suit every ability.

As locals, these are the five routes we find ourselves returning to again and again.

1. Newgale to Solva

Distance: 5.4 miles (8.7km) one way
Difficulty: Moderate
Parking: Newgale Beach car parks or Solva Harbour car park

If you only have time for one walk, this is the one I’d recommend.

Leaving Newgale Beach behind, the path climbs onto the cliffs with stunning views across St Brides Bay. Along the way you’ll pass hidden coves, dramatic headlands and some of the best wildlife spotting opportunities in Pembrokeshire. Keep your eyes open for seals, dolphins and seabirds.

The reward at the end is beautiful Solva Harbour, one of the prettiest villages in Wales.

2. Newgale to Nolton Haven

Distance: 3 miles (4.8km) one way
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Parking: Newgale Beach or Nolton Haven car park

This is our favourite recommendation for families and casual walkers.

The route heads south from Newgale along a beautiful stretch of coastline before arriving at the peaceful cove of Nolton Haven. It’s shorter than some of the other walks but still delivers spectacular views and plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the scenery.oute information.

3. Newgale to Broad Haven

Distance: 5.7 miles (9.2km) one way
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Parking: Newgale Beach or Broad Haven seafront

This walk doesn’t always get as much attention as the route to Solva, but it should.

Heading south, you’ll discover hidden coves, dramatic cliff scenery and fascinating reminders of Pembrokeshire’s industrial history. The final approach into Broad Haven offers fantastic views across the bay and a well-earned choice of cafés and pubs at the finish.

4. Newgale to St Davids

Distance: 9.6 miles (15.5km) one way
Difficulty: Moderate
Parking: Newgale Beach or St Davids city centre car parks

For those wanting a full day on the coast path, this walk is hard to beat.

The route takes in the stunning coastline around Solva before continuing towards Britain’s smallest city. The views become increasingly dramatic as St Davids Cathedral comes into sight in the distance. It’s a fantastic walk for experienced walkers looking to experience a larger section of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

5. Druidston Haven Circular Walk

Distance: Approximately 4 miles (6.4km)
Difficulty: Moderate
Parking: Druidston Haven National Trust parking area

If you’re after maximum scenery with minimum mileage, this is a great choice.

Druidston Haven is one of Pembrokeshire’s hidden gems. This circular walk combines cliff-top views, rolling countryside and one of the county’s most spectacular beaches. On a clear summer evening, the sunsets here can be absolutely unforgettable.

A Few Final Tips

Before setting off, always check the weather forecast, wear suitable footwear and take plenty of water. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is incredibly rewarding, but there are plenty of ups and downs along the way.

The good news is that when you’re staying at at Coastal Holidays Pembrokeshire, many of these walks start right from your doorstep. There’s no need to drive anywhere – simply lace up your walking boots and head for the coast.

It’s one of the reasons so many guests return year after year. Once you’ve experienced these views for yourself, it’s easy to understand why.
